Photo editing websites

Friday, August 12th, 2011

The Internet had witnessed the mushrooming of hundreds of photo editing websites, many of them offering free photo editing services. Whether free or for a nominal payment, such photo editing websites offer real value in altering the photos and giving people the opportunity for them to look stunning.

For example, many wedding photos normally require retouching and airbrushing to provide that special effect for lasting memories. Similarly, such websites can effectively change the appearance of people, adding height for shorter people to look a little taller, for overly slim people to look well-proportioned, for more obese people to appear slimmer, and males with disproportionate chest muscles that look like false breasts to appear normal.

Another important service that these photo editing websites provide is the ability to add a key person into a group photo, say for example if they had been unable to attend a function for some reason. Similarly, anyone not desired to be in the group photo can be removed without any trace of that person having been part of the shot!  Great for newly divorced couples!

Bright backgrounds can at times reduce the importance of the people in the photos so the good thing about these websites is their ability to blur the backgrounds within seconds, to make the pictures look more natural and pleasing.

Some of the photo editing websites on the Internet include the famous corporate houses like Adobe, Microsoft, Google, etc. At the same time, hundreds of small and unknown photo editing websites offer free photo edit services so just Google away until you find what you are looking for!

Photo editing sites

We are not all born the same!  Every individual is not photogenic, which means people who look beautiful or handsome in real life can sometimes look less appealing or positively ‘awful’ in photos if caught in the wrong light or at the wrong moment.

Conversely, people who appear ordinary or even genuinely ‘plain’ in person can be seen as extremely appealing or astonishingly beautiful in photos. In the good old days of black and white or even the initial stages of the color photo era, photos reflected exactly the way the camera eye looked at a person. There was no way to change the appearance or to make light touches to enhance the looks.

However since those days, many, many photo editing sites have sprung up on the Internet. Even though Photoshop and Coral Draw software help professionals following months of costly training in modifying photos, such actions and resources are usually beyond the reach of the ordinary person, that was until the advent of these photo editing sites.

Now, with the photo editing tools offered by these numerous sites, you can convert your own image, sometimes fit enough to be on the cover of a magazine. These sites help you change your profile and even your mood in a few seconds with just a few clicks of the mouse. The tools offered by the latest photo editing sites are mostly free and they help you customize your photo editing to suit your individual capabilities. You often do not require any programming knowledge or skills but instead need a good deal of passion and ample time to experiment with colors and profile changes to effectively use the photo editing sites.

Photo edit

In August 2009, bloggers reacted sharply to an advertisement by Microsoft Corp. which had performed a photo edit by changing the race of a person in the advert from black to white.

The photo in question appeared on the U.S. website of Microsoft, in which three colleagues were seen to be sitting around a table in a conference room. The three people that appeared in the advert were a white, a black, and a person of Asian ethnicity and persuasion. However, when the same photo appeared on the Polish website of Microsoft, the face of the black individual had suddenly changed and become the face of a white person!

Bloggers and other critics accused Microsoft of acting with racial motivations. However, it was widely believed that Microsoft resorted to this controversial photo edit to suit the racial composition of Poland, where the black population is negligible.

After this incident came to light, the techie blog TechCrunch, went to the extent of launching a contest relating to the best manipulation of the figures in the Microsoft advert to one where they looked the most funny. TechCrunch offered a Bing T-shirt to the winner, Bing being the search engine of Microsoft.

Ultimately, Microsoft expressed their sincerest apologies over the incident, issuing a statement that it was looking into the circumstances that led to this occurrence.  It also replaced the altered photograph with the original one. Several other digitally altered photo edit images have also been the subject of controversy in the past and show that these incidents run a real risk when photo edited advertorials are shown, as such actions can sometimes backfire and lead to quite angry reactions from the public.
